If you are running a 64-bit operating system, you can quickly determine which processor type it is. If your computer has an Intel chip inside then the OS will be 64-bit and if it does not, then it’s 32-bit. To find out which type of processor your PC uses, use these two steps: 1) Open System Information from Control Panel 2) Select Hardware tab on left side of window and select Device Manager

The “how to tell if your computer is 32 or 64-bit windows 10” is a question that many people have been asking. If you’re on Windows 11, the operating system will let you know what type of processor it has.

There are instances when you need to pick the version of a software setup or installer to download depending on the system type and processor type of your machine. A 64-bit application will not operate on a 32-bit operating system, for example, and a computer or device with an ARM-based CPU can only execute applications built for ARM-based PCs. In Windows 11, this post will teach you how to determine if your machine is 64-bit, 32-bit, ARM64, or ARM.

The following CPU architectures are found in most current computers and devices:

  • 32-bit software (x86-based)
  • 64-bit software (x64-based)
  • ARM-based

These two CPU designs vary in a number of ways. You can only install 32-bit operating systems and use 32-bit software if your computer has a 32-bit processor. 64-bit, on the other hand, will be capable of running both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems and apps. It’s worth remembering that Windows 11 is only compatible with 64-bit processors.

Another significant distinction between 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems is that a 32-bit operating system can only utilize a certain amount of RAM. A 32-bit architecture can only use up to 4 GB of memory, but a 64-bit design has the potential to use up to 16 exabytes. In order to effectively use your RAM and other hardware resources, it is suggested that you install a 64-bit operating system if you have a 64-bit CPU.

In Windows 11, how can you tell whether your CPU is 64-bit, 32-bit, or ARM?

Method 1: System > About

The easiest way to quickly check the system and processor type of your computer is by going to Settings > System > About in Windows 11. For detailed instructions on how to open the System’s About page, follow the steps below.

To access the Settings app, press Win + i. Scroll to the bottom of the right window and pick About.

2. In the System > About page, the System type along with the processor type is listed under Device specifications.

For example, my PC is running 64-bit Windows 11 on an x64-based CPU in the image above.

If your computer has an ARM-based CPU, however, “ARM-based” will appear next to the system type. For example, my ARM-based (ARM64) Lenovo laptop computer’s system and processor type are shown in the image below.

Method 2: Information about the system

The System Information app is another option to verify your computer’s characteristics, such as the system architecture and processor type. Simply go to Start, type “System Information” into the search box, then click on it.

Then, in the left pane, choose System Summary. Then, next to “System Type” on the right pane, you can see whether your system is x64-based, x86-based, or ARM-based, as seen in the picture below.

Command Prompt is the third method (CMD)

Instead of utilizing programs to determine the system type, you may use Command Prompt to determine the CPU architecture type.

1. Open Command Prompt by searching for “CMD” in the Start menu. It is not necessary to have administrator privileges to run the command to examine processor architecture. As a result, you won’t need to execute command prompt as administrator in this situation.

2. Type the following command into the command prompt window.

3. Depending on your CPU architecture, this command will return one of the following results.

  • If you have a 32-bit CPU, use x86.
  • If you have a 64-bit CPU, use AMD64.
  • If you have an ARM-based CPU, use ARM64.

In Windows 11, there are three techniques for rapidly determining if your machine has a 64-bit, 32-bit, ARM64, or ARM32 based CPU.

Nyau Wai Hoe’s last update was on February 11, 2022.

In order to know if Windows 11 is 64-bit, 32-bit or ARM, you need to know what version of Windows 10 the computer is running. If it’s running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, then it’s a 64 bit operating system. If it’s running Windows 10 Home 64-bit, then it’s a 32 bit operating system. If it’s running Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit, then it’s an ARM operating system. Reference: upgrade 32 bit to 64 bit windows 7.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my Windows 11 is 32 or 64-bit?

A: You can check the type of your processor by opening the Control Panel. If you see an option that says System Type then it is a 32-bit operating system, but if theres no such option, which means it is 64-bit.

How do I know if I have ARM64 or x64?

A: x64 is a 64-bit operating system while ARM64 is an architecture that has been optimized for 64-bit computing. If youre unsure of what your device identifies as, try opening up Task Manager on Windows and open the Details tab to see if it says that your computers processor supports both types.

Is Windows 11 x64 or x86?

A: Windows is a software, not an operating system. Microsoft has been developing and releasing new versions of their flagship product for over 30 years now. To be more specific, the version of windows you are using is 64-bit x86 edition.
